Barrie is a vibrant and attractive city in Central Ontario, located on the shores of Kempenfelt Bay. Geographically, Barrie is located approximately 90 km north of Toronto within the largely industrialized Greater Golden Horseshoe region. The city’s population is reported to be just over 130,000 residents, making it the 34th largest city in Canada. The historic downtown area of Barrie is located in a curved valley surrounding the western edge of Kempenfelt Bay, and is home to a multitude of independent specialty shops and boutiques, pubs and restaurants, and the popular Barrie’s Farmer’s Market. Several residential communities reside nearby downtown, including Letitia Heights, Cundles, Ardagh Bluffs, Eastview, Holly, and Kingswood. The city is also home to an abundance of parkland, totaling over 90 parks scattered around the city. Many of these parks line the famous Kempenfelt Bay, and have swimmable beaches. Several commercial areas are located on Mapleview Dr, including the Park Place shopping centre. The main hospital in the city if the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, located at 201 Georgian Dr.
The Barrie Transit system conveniently takes passengers to and from all regions of the city. A specialized transit service is also available for those physically unable to access the public transit system.
