James Bay is a neighbourhood in Victoria, British Columbia. It is the oldest neighbourhood on the west coast. It is bordered on 3 sides by the water of Maro strait. it is bordered on the east side by the Beaconhill Park. It is named after the shallow inlet of James Bay.
There are 6 parks found in the James Bay neighbourhood; Beacon Hill, Holland, Irving, Laurel Point, Macdonald and South Parks. James Bay was part of the Ogden's field farm and Fort Victoria. In 1859 it was home to the Parlament of BC. South Park elementary.
The major commercial areas are Menzies and Simcoe street. The fisherman's wharf which is still an active marina. It is the Hub to the tourist industry of Victoria. There are several buildings of significance; Emily Carr house, Orchard House as well as two Ogden point cruise ship terminal and US/Canada Ferries.
