Gimli is a rural municipality located in the south-central Manitoba, it is on the western shore of Lake Winnipeg and located in the Interlake region. It is home to the largest population of Icelandic heritage outside of Iceland. it had reserve status until 1899 and was called new Iceland.
There are main employers of Gimli residence is Gimli distillery and Faroex. The Gimli distillery is the source of Crown Royal whisky and produces the global Canadian whisky requirement. Faroex is a manufacturer of agriculture consumer and military industries. Gimli is home to hundreds of fishermen who catch whitefish and pickerel. The summer has thousands of cottagers pour in and the tourism is of great importance.
Gimli is home to the Icelandic Festival the long Weekend in August every year and has been in operation since 1932. The Municipality of Grimly has an ageing population with 33.5 % of the 6'181 residents about the age of 61. There are 2'749 dwellings and it covers an area of 319.25 km2.
