Victoria West, commonly known as Vic West, is a small neighborhood located just steps away from downtown, across Victoria Harbour. The Johnson Street Bridge was built in 1924, and links downtown Victoria to Victoria West. The neighborhood has undergone a great deal of commercial and residential development since the early 1900’s, yet still has one of the highest ratios of parkland to population in the city. With the exception of a few expensive homes in the Gorge Waterway area, much of the residential development was catered to working-class families. Amenities in the area include the Victoria West Community Centre, churches and other services. Along the shores of Victoria West runs a continuous paved promenade called Westsong Way, which is easily accessible and convenient for walks along the waterfront from Songhees Point to West Bay. The more diverse Galloping Goose Trail is also a popular trail running from Victoria to Leechtown and passes through suburbs, forests, beaches and streams, highlighting the beauty of Victoria.
Nearby neighbourhoods include Burnside, downtown Victoria, and James Bay. All surrounding areas are easily accessible via BC transit.
