Brampton is a large city in Ontario, located just northwest of Mississauga. It is a suburban city in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), with a population of just under 600,000 residents. The main residential development in Brampton took place in the 1980s, with many suburban communities built around the area. While still highly residential, the city is also home to a number of major companies, and is in close proximity to Toronto’s business district, making it an attractive city for working class residents.
Brampton is home to a multitude of cultural attractions, including the Peel Art Gallery, the Rose Theatre, the Korean War Memorial Wall, the Powerade Centre, and several libraries around the city. The major shopping areas include Bramalea City Centre, Shoppers World and Trinity common mall. The vibrant downtown area also has a number of unique retail stores and boutiques, as well as pubs, restaurants and festivals year-round. Brampton contains an extensive parkland trail and sidewalk system that connects the entire community. The Brampton Transit system also conveniently takes passengers to and from all areas of the city. There are two main hospitals in the city, the Brampton Civil Hospital and the Peel Memorial Hospital, both of which are also accessible by bus.
