Conveniently located by the historic Rideau Canal, Old Ottawa East is a neighbourhood in the Capital Ward of Ottawa. Geographically, it is situated to the south of Nicholas Street between the Rideau Canal and the Rideau River, and north of Avenue Road. The area is primary residential with mainly townhouses, single-family homes, and condos. Old Ottawa East is home to several elementary and high schools, making the area a desirable location for families with children. A number of parklands also reside in the area, including the Springhurst Park and Brantwood Park, located on the shore of the Rideau River.
Directly to the northwest of Old East Ottawa, residents can easily access Downtown Ottawa, home to the expanding Rideau Centre shopping mall, a multitude of restaurants, entertainment and cultural attractions. The city of Ottawa is served by OC Transpo, offering a number of local bus routes that take passengers to and from all major areas of the city, as well as smaller neighbourhoods. Accessible door-to-door transit is available for those in need. The Ottawa Hospital is located only 3 km away from the neighbourhood, and is also accessible by bus.
