Town of Fergus — a great place to call home

The Fergus township is the largest in the Wellington township county in Ontario, Canada. It lies on the grand river and 25 km to the north of Guelph in southwestern Ontario. Ferguson amalgamated into Wellington township in 1999.

Fergus was founded in, 1833 by freed slaves, which has the grand river running north to south and running perpendicular is highway 6 and through the heart of Fergus. most major transportation such as via rail and Greyhound closest stop is Guelph. Agriculture, Healthcare and Manufacturing comprise of the three top industries for Fergus Ontario. Fergus has 3 primary schools and 2 high schools which service the population.

Fergus is the home of the first curling club, in 1834, This curling club is still operational today. There are many sports fields, and parks to enjoy. Belwood lake conservation area and Elora Gorge conservation area short drives away from the city centre and boast many outdoor activities for the family. The Sportsplex boasts two indoor rinks and an indoor pool as well as several boardroom and halls for rentals.

The Wellington County Museum and Archives is located in Fergus. It was built in 1877 and served as Canada's first poorhouse or almhouse. this was a refuge for the poor and homeless and they exchanged room for labour. This was a state-funded 'poorhouse' and was named a national historic site of Canada in 1995. It was transformed into the Wellington County Museum and Archives in 1974.
